This policy describes how TeleWeather Canada handles information when you use this website or our telephone weather service.
Information handled by the website
- Normal web requests: Our hosting and network providers may process standard request information such as your IP address, browser, device, and the time of a request to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the site.
- Location directory: The directory and location APIs return public weather-location data. Searches on the directory page are performed in your browser after the directory is loaded.
- Bookmarks: Bookmarked locations are saved in your browser's local storage. They are not sent to Haze or used to build an account or profile.
- Find nearest: If you select this feature, the site uses ipwho.is to estimate a nearby location from your IP address. This is an approximate IP-based lookup, not GPS, and it is not run automatically.
Information handled by the telephone service
Depending on how you call, the telephone carrier and Haze's telephony providers may handle your phone number, call identifiers, routing information, and normal call metadata. The service may use your caller area code as an optional province hint when caller hints are enabled.
If you use voice location search, Haze temporarily writes the captured audio to a restricted server file while it is sent for transcription. The file is removed after the transcription attempt; it is not kept as a call recording. DTMF entries and the resulting location selection are used to complete the weather request.
Public data and Haze systems
The location catalogue contains public or operational data such as names, codes, coordinates, forecast identifiers, and census population values used for sorting. These values describe locations, not individual callers.
Haze may retain limited technical logs and short-lived session data for security, service operation, and diagnostics. Temporary telephone sessions expire automatically. We do not use TeleWeather data to create advertising profiles or sell personal information.
Service providers
TeleWeather relies on hosting, network, telephony, transcription, and other infrastructure providers to operate the service. Those providers may process the information needed to provide their part of the service under their own terms and privacy policies. The website also loads the Hanken Grotesk font from Google Fonts.
How we use and protect information
Information is used to provide weather responses, answer messages, prevent abuse, maintain reliability, and investigate security or service problems. Access is limited to what is needed for those purposes. We use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information and keep information only as long as it is needed for the purpose collected, or as required by law.
Your choices and requests
You can clear saved bookmarks through your browser settings, and you can choose not to use Find nearest or voice search. To ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or raise a privacy concern, contact webmaster@teleweather.ca. We may need enough information to verify and respond to a request.
Applicable privacy law
The law that applies depends on the activity and where you are located. We will handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy requirements, including any substantially similar provincial law that applies to the service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the service or our data practices change. The date above identifies the current version.
